Come and Try Day 25th February

Come and Try Day Results

The Barron River Water Ski Club held its first open day on Sunday 25th February. After a continual week of rain and the rain still pouring down until 7am Sunday ,  the day looked to be a washout. But with the great course location and some sort of weather god smiling upon us the day went ahead with only a few misty showers passing through.

With 27 individuals taking up the challenge on either the mini course or the full course the boat drivers and judges were set to spend some time in the boats. The parents and friends that came along to support  also need commending for braving the elements.

The day started off with the juniors, 10 in total, which demonstrates what the club is about, as they are the future. A special mention should go to Adrian, who tore up the mini course and will know have to ski in Div 2 Men’s. Sarah and Amie, who travelled from Innisfail, showed huge potential for their first go through the slalom course. Last of all, Jordan, who showed no fear in attacking the course on doubles and clearing it.

Next through were the ladies all eager to have a go. Their commitment to reach that extra buoy was evident by some of the big crashes that was sustained. Well done to all.

The same was for the next group of competitors, Men’s Div 2. With 7 competitors in this group the testosterone was sure the be pumping. After 2 rounds and 8 passes it was hard to separate Ross and Arran.

Last of all  Div 1. This was a chance for one of the boys to show what they were made of. But along came Angie and showed them all how it should be done by running down to the 13 metre line. It was great to watch both Angie and Alexie with their solid technique carving up the course.

In all it was a great day down by the lake. With this the first event of the club and the numbers we had in such trying conditions shows that the future looks promising for the club. Once again thanks to all that came along and supported the day and special thanks should go to Ashley, Trish, Joel and Rikki for their help with all the chores that made it a great day. Also thanks to Lachlan for the use of the Party Barge as our ski off site.

Stay tuned for the next Come and Try Day.
